The global system is continually in flux, but some periods the changes are more acute and pronounced than at others. So it is with the state of play today, in the mid 2020s. The unipolar moment - Pax Americana - is in the rear vision mirror. Global institutions created in the aftermath of world war 2 continue to play important roles, but these are being burnished by other arrangements such as BRICS and SCO etc.
